Sustainable Quilts

In this day and age of sustainability, renewable and recyclable, I think long and hard before buying more fabric - difficult for me as new fabrics are sorely tempting! I try and use vintage fabrics where I can, but don’t always have the right colour, the right pattern etc, so have to resort to buying new, so do try and buy the best that is available to give the longest wear possible. I must admit I do prefer using vintage fabrics - they’ve already been washed, pulled about a bit, loved and cared for, so you know that the colours aren’t going to run, and they tend to be of a better quality!

So, all that got me thinking ……. I have decided to offer a service to you all in repairing and restoring old, worn, torn quilts to also help you save the environment. If you have a quilt that is looking tatty, faded, ripped or generally worn out do please get in touch to see if I can help. Anything from small tears and repairs by hand or machine sewing, to complete new patches can be done, or even a complete new top or backing I’m able to do. Below is a picture of one of my first quilts I made from about 25 years ago. The top had become very tatty through use - dogs laying on it, being used on a sofa as a cover and washing regularly has all made it look very scruffy indeed. The wadding and backing were still in good condition, so I decided to put a new cover on it. I will post a pic, once I’ve got it all back together to show you how it came out! 😁
